MICHAEL ROLAND GOUGH (NOVEMBER 23, 1916 – MARCH 17, 2011)

Michael Gough, noted British actor of many films in the the horror genre, including HORRORS IN THE BLACK MUSEUM, BLACK ZOO, KONGATHE SKULL, and more recently Tim Burton's LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, died yesterday at the age of 94. In later years, he was called upon to use his distinctive voice for numerous voice over jobs. He is perhaps best known for his role as Alfred the Butler in the Batman film franchise. R.I.P., Mr. Gough.

It was nice to see Michael Gough getting some belated recognition for his part in the Batman features, but they were all small roles. He did many horror titles for which I shall always remember him best, whether sympathetic, as in HORROR OF DRACULA and DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, or dastardly villains, as in HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM, KONGA, CANDIDATE FOR MURDER, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, BLACK ZOO, CRUCIBLE OF HORROR, TROG, HORROR HOSPITAL, SATAN'S SLAVE. He also made a pair of memorable masterminds on THE AVENGERS, in "The Cybernauts" and "The Correct Way to Kill."

Kochillt, I agree. Gough was an important actor in the canon of horror films. I think sometimes he's a little unsung as well. And, thanks for posting your comments and info on MMW's earlier House of Frankenstein and Glenn Strange posts!
