Ian Thorne wrote the early editions of Crestwood House's "Monster Series". Thorne was a pseudonym for Julian May, a successful author of juvenile and science-fiction/fantasy novels. She admitted later that she tired of writing stories for young readers and instead preferred the fantasy genre. In the meantime, she created a world of monsters that captivated a generation of 70s monster kids.
