MONSTER MANIA NO. 2 (PART 1)

MONSTER MANIA
Vol. 1 No. 2
January 1967
Renaissance Productions
Editor: Russ Jones
Cover art: Frank Frazetta
Pages: 68

Co-publishers Russ Jones and Lee Irgang one-upped Warren's seemingly exclusive hold on the talent of Frank Frazetta by not only featuring a cover by Frazetta for their second issue, but a wrap-around cover to boot. The cover image of cave men carrying away naked Rubenesque cave girls is iconic to Edgar Rice Burrough's Pellucidar, but is more tied to the theme of the issue -- Hammer Films -- and was intended to evoke their movie, ONE MILLION YEARS, B.C.

Leading off is a substantive interview with director Terence Fischer, followed by a review of the then recently-released Raquel Welch vehicle, ONE MILLION YEARS, B.C., then an overview of Hammer Horror film productions that had been released thus far. There's an article on the career of Christopher Lee and the second part of "The Peter Cushing Story" which had begun is issue #1.

MONSTER MANIA was fast-becomoing a solid monster magazine and, in retrospect, deserves a respected place in the canon of monster magazines of the 1960s.
