MOVIE MONSTERS NO. 3 (PART 1)

MOVIE MONSTERS
Vol. 1 No. 3
April 1975
Seaboard Periodicals, Inc.
Publisher: Charles Goodman
Editor: Jeff Rovin
Cover: George Torjussen
Pages: 84

Marred by the hideous travesty of a cover depicting a flesh-stripped and decayed Phantom of the Opera, Seaboard's third (and next to last) issue luridly spilled its guts on the newsstands. Once inside, the contents is found to be much tamer fare, and, indeed, layout-wise doesn't look at all different from the two preceding issues.

Jeff Rovin remained editor, obviously content and paid well enough to stay on board the fast sinking monster magazine enterprise. After two artful covers by Greg Theakston, this third issue was degraded with a literal mash-up of Lon Chaney, Sr.'s Phantom visage, crudely done by George Torjussen. This must have been some very early work by the artist, as he is today seen in a number of "fine art" web galleries displaying not half-bad, art deco-inspired work.
